South Florida Symphony Orchestra’s premiere of Candide is inspired by Lonny Price’s 2004 New York Philharmonic production, made famous by PBS’s “Great Performances.” This semi-staged concert version features 50 musicians and 30 singers, including a dynamic cast of actor vocalists, and inventive sets and costumes.
Teeming with humor, twists, and philosophical reflections, Bernstein’s iconic music—adapted from Voltaire’s iconic novella—brings Candide’s riotous journey to life for an unforgettable evening of laughter and existential musings. An equal opportunity offender, Candide spares no one and everything is fair game in this irreverent satire.
Featuring the hit songs, “Glitter and Be Gay”, “I am Easily Assimilated”, and the memorable finale “Make Our Garden Grow,” audiences will enjoy a fresh take on life’s absurdities and the endless pursuit of optimism.
