American mezzo-soprano Maggie Reneé, a Metropolitan Opera Grand Finalist Award Winner, “possesses a luscious and deep sound” (Opera Wire) and is a “suavely forthright and impressive mezzo” (Parterre Box). “A singer to keep your eye on” (California Philharmonic) with a “rich, silky mezzo” (Opera News), she has a strong appreciation for all musical genres, sings in 8+ languages, writes her own music, has a black belt in Karate, entertains more than 285,000+ of her subscribers and hundreds of thousands of viewers on her YouTube channels daily and is passionate about brining joy to her audiences by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment both in person and virtually.
This season Maggie will perform Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen both at The Music Academy of the West and at Juilliard, Venus in Orpheus in the Underworld at Vienna Volksoper, go on tour with Swedish Orchestra performing Baba the Turk with Barbara Hannigan’s production of The Rakes Progress, and will be a Soloist in Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra.
For the 2022-2023 season Maggie covered Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen and sang Nicolette in Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges at Des Moines Opera, performed a Juilliard’s Honors Recital in Lincoln Center featuring Mussorgsky and de Falla song cycles, and performed at Caramoor and Kaufman Music Center as a soloist with with the New York Festival of Song (NYFOS).
For the 2021-2022 season Maggie sang Irene in Handel’s Atalanta at Juilliard Opera and at Merola Opera Maggie sang Zweiter Knabe in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, was a soloist at the Schwabacher and American Song concerts, and sang her favorite Carmen scene at the Merola Grand Finale. At Lincoln Center, she sang Baba the Turk in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress and Un Récitante in Claude Debussy’s La Damoiselle élue under the baton of Maestro Barbara Hannigan and premiered new music at the FOCUS Festival. She performed with Juilliard415 at Joye at the Aiken Festival and in NY with the New York Festival of Song (NYFOS) and the Metropolitan Opera Guild‘s Baroque Master Class series.
For the 2020-2021 season at Santa Fe Opera, Maggie covered Olga in Eugene Onegin and Due Donna in Mozart’s Le Nozze Di Figaro and sang a Lost Woman in The Lord of Cries. At Juilliard Opera, Maggie sang King Egeo in Handel’s Teseo, performed at the New York Festival of Song (NYFOS), performed in Liederabend at Paul Hall, and was in Juilliard residency with Denyce Graves.
For the 2019-2020 season, Maggie was scheduled to perform the title role in Carmen with Hogfish Opera in Maine and tour Germany and the Netherlands singing the combined role of Goffredo/Eustazio in the Juilliard Opera production of Handel’s Rinaldo conducted by Nicholas McGegan and performed with Juilliard415. She performed Goffredo/Eustazio in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and also performed Debussy vocal works with the New York Philharmonic.
In 2019, Maggie made her Carmen debut in City Lyric Opera’s presentation of Peter Brook’s La Tragédie de Carmen and made her Lincoln Center debut singing Mussorgsky’s Nursery Cycle. At Juilliard Opera Maggie sang the role of Mother Marie in an adaptation of the Dialogues of the Carmelites called There’s Blood Between Us and performed the role of Annie in Opera in a Bottle for Juilliard’s new music composer collaboration project called OperaComp. She toured Europe covering Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas a collaboration with Juilliard415 that was performed at The Wilson Theater in New York, The Joye in Aiken Festival in Aiken, SC, Opera Holland Park in London, and the Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles, and made solo debuts with the Reno Philharmonic and the California Philharmonic Orchestra at the Walt Disney Concert Hall where she was named the 2019 California Philharmonic Young Artist Winner.
In 2018, Maggie sang the role of Juno in Juilliard‘s production of Orpheus in the Underworld and performed in Chamber Concerts, Songbbook, Recitals, and International Festival at Juilliard. During the summer, she sang the role of Nerone in scenes of L’Incorazione di Poppeas at the Baroque Opera Workshop and was an apprentice artist at Teatro Nuovo (formerly Caramoor).
Maggie had her European debut in 2017, where, at 18 years old, she debuted the role of Cherubino in Berlin Opera Festival‘s fully staged opera production of Le nozze di Figaro in Berlin, Germany. In 2014 she released her 1st pop album of her original music called “Craziest Feelings” and is currently working on her second album.
Maggie is a Juilliard Gluck Fellow, a recipient of the Burford Scholarship, Pauline and Arthur Feibush Memorial Scholarship, F. Heiligenstein Scholarship and Tatiana Troyanos Scholarship. In addition to being a Metropolitan Opera Grand Finalist Award Winner, Maggie is a 1st Place Cooper-Bing Awards Winner, Saengerbund Awards Winner, Rochester Oratorio Society Emerging Artist Winner, an Opera Index Award Winner, Sullivan Foundation Finalist, Igor Gorin Memorial Award Recipient, Career Bridge Award Winner and an Honors BM and MM graduate of The Juilliard School where she is pursuing her ADOS.
