Pianist Catherine Lan performs Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 on April 9 & 10, 2025.

Praised by critics as a pianist with “poise and artistry” (The Lancaster News), “fluent technique, sensitive musicianship and a probing intellect” (Palm Beach Daily News), Dr. Catherine Lan has concertized across Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Mexico, Switzerland, France, Spain, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, China, Thailand, United Kingdom, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Ireland, Canada, and the US at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, Kadriorg Palace in Tallinn, Buda Castle in Budapest, Temppeliaukio Church in Helsinki, Euphrasian Basilica (UNESCO) in Poreč, and Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.

A soloist with Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, British-Columbia Chamber Orchestra, and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Lan’s 2024-2025 season brings an impressive lineup of performances including recitals and masterclasses across the U.S., and tours in France and Estonia. Highlights include her solo appearances performing the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 with Manassas Symphony Orchestra, Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, and Palm Beach Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, as well as Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with South Florida Symphony Orchestra.

Lan is also an avid chamber musician; she has collaborated with Itamar Zorman, James Buswell, David Requiro, Ayano Ninomiya, Aspen String Trio, Henschel String Quartet, and Maxwell String Quartet. A featured guest artist with the Key West Impromptu Classical Concerts (FL), Artist Series of Tallahassee (FL), Artist Series Concert of Sarasota (FL), Four Seasons Arts (CA), Cedar City Music Arts (UT), Grand Concerts Series (CO), and Northeast Kingdom Concert Series (VT), Romanza Festivale (FL), Swan City Piano Festival (FL), Bowdoin International Music Festival (ME), Karlovac Piano Festival (Croatia), and Rovinj Summer Festival (Croatia), Lan’s highly acclaimed performances have been broadcast on WLRN-Public Television, “Beethoven Universal TV” series, Maine Public, Fu-Hsin Broadcasting Station, and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Radio.

Lan’s many creative projects include her work as the founder and artistic leader of Duo Beaux Arts, Duo Arpeggione, Duo Formosa, Tallinn Piano Trio, Delray Piano Trio, Atlantic Piano Trio, and Beaux Arts Chamber Ensemble. Lan brings her “palpable sense of danger and excitement” (Primephonic) to her album titled “Incandescent” released on Centaur Label (CRC 3457), in which the Romance “sings marvelously, while the rhythms of the short Scherzino are beautifully springy; the high-velocity finale also is excellently flighty, its technical hurdles melting to nothing. It is clear there is an exquisite musicality at work” (Fanfare Magazine).

Born in Taiwan and raised in Canada, Lan received Bachelor of Music from University of British-Columbia, Master of Music from Indiana University (Bloomington), and Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Miami, Lan serves on the faculty at Broward College, and she is also the Director of Chamber Music at South Florida Symphony. www.catherinelan.com
